Our facility started using
ZIPPS to assist with the
implementation of
cavity pressure transducers
and associated training in
January of 2003.
Since that time, we have
witnessed a vast improvement
to the overall
operations in our Molding
Department.
One of the biggest benefits
has been the training our
mold technicians and
supervisors received from
ZIPPS. Positive comments
were made as early as
the first class. Comments
such as, “I learned more
today than I have in
the past 10 years”, and “I
now understand why I am
making these process
changes”. After the training
received in 2003, there was
no question if we
would continue the training
in 2004. The training has
been a positive and
rewarding experience for
each person involved,
regardless of position.
This has truly been an
investment in our workforce
that has paid us back
ten-fold. Other benefits
included cycle time savings,
scrap reductions,
tooling modifications and
improved material
utilization. Through some of
these improvements, we were
able to change our shift
hours from a 4-shift
operation working 24/7, to a
3-shift operation working
24/5. Our Molding
Department is no longer the
highest scrap contributor.
We no longer make
large cycle count
adjustments. There have been
other benefits to the
implementation of the E Dart
system. One of the benefits
is the real-time
data that can be viewed from
any network PC. Another is
that work
instructions and process
sheets can be viewed at the
press without the
need for hard copies
