Students learn to identify, troubleshoot, and then control the
molding process to resolve defects that arise. Floor time as
well as ARoutsis video.

  Problems such as:

  • Bubbles- A spherical, internal void or globule of air or other gas trapped in a molded part.

  • Burns-A dark discoloration on a molded product.

  • Cracks-small hairline split in a plastic product.

  • Delamination-Where plastic peels up in layers or separates its layers.

  • Dimensions- The determined size of the part and whether it’s too big or too small.

  • Discoloration- A coloration other than the original color the product is suppose to be.

  • Drooling- Where the plastic seeps back out of the nozzle.

  • Jetting- Where the material enters the mold in a turbulent or stream fashion.

  • Meld lines- Where two plastic flow fronts come together and flow past each other but still leave a visible mark.

  • Short Shots- An incomplete part.

  • Sinks- Where material relieves stress by creating a sunken-in area.

  • Splay- Streaks on the molded part.

  • Voids- Like sinks but creates a vacuum bubble inside the part to relieve stress.

  • Warpage- Where part distorts or twists due to stress in the molded product.
